Editor's Log 006
The week I got cited, got sick, and fell back in love with Lily Allen.
Hi all,
Welcome back to the Editor’s Log, your weekly recap of everything worth knowing (and a few things that aren’t). Sorry I’m a day late - back-to-school rush… This week was crazy - half term and halloween (though I was ill half the week), and we released my review of the Lily Allen album!
Monday
Rian Phin released their youtube video on London Fashion Week - super in-depth and interesting to watch. They also cited my review of the Aaron Esh show as one of their sources (big fan, so that meant a lot!).
Tuesday
DaMetalMessiah released his El-B interview. I’m a massive El-B fan - start here if you’re new to his work. I really enjoy all of DaMetalMessiah’s interviews; he’s got great chemistry with everyone he talks to and he clearly knows his stuff. His Rinse show is a monthly favourite of mine too, and definitely cop tickets for the Ruff Sqwad show he’s hosting next week.
I also rewatched ‘Scream,’ one of my favourite films (surprising, I know). Why did nobody have a gun? And I really loved this skirt.
Wednesday
Balamii released their Timberland set - one of my favourite sets this year. Jayahadadream and Novelist were MVPs.
M.I.C. finally announced his next tape, out at midnight!
Chanté Joseph mused on whether boyfriends are embarrassing for British Vogue. Still gathering my thoughts.
Thursday
Sadie Coles opened Sadie Coles Books. It’s my favourite gallery in London and I love books, so I’m excited to see the curation - though it’s probably just a spare office corner.
I rewatched the Devil Wears Prada. Proud to say I’ve never met an editor as harsh as Miranda Priestly. Not sure if anyone’s seen the pics from the reboot filming, but the outfits are very bad. So not Devil Wears Prada, so not magazine office-core.
Cantilever launched in the UK. Once I get an iPhone (sorry, still on Android), I’ll get on that straight away. Would love to write for them - their editorial quality is some of the best right now (though that’s not saying much).
Also made a lovely Blackberry cobbler - recipe here. Trust me, it’s better than it looks.
Friday
India Birgitta Jarvis wrote a great piece for i-D on ‘The Kids Bringing Back Pagan Britain.’ I spoke about this with a mate recently - is the resurgence of paganism a recession indicator? (Maybe. But deer costumes definitely are - more on that soon.) Everyone’s writing about paganism and the occult - Dazed, Artnet, i-D (obviously). Honestly, I’m on board.
Cassia Agyeman teased some of my favourite pictures I’ve (maybe) ever seen on Instagram. Definitely check her out - and book her!
Rewatched Black the Ripper’s F64. Always felt a real connection to his music. Forgot how clean that F64 was, though his SBTV Bars will always win for me.
Watched the Japanese horror ‘Audition.’ It was good - nothing crazy, but very, very violent.
Nike and Palace held their first event at their new Manor Place space in South London. Super cool venue and idea - free football and skateboarding for young people, plus free studio space for six emerging creatives (literally the best lineup I’ve ever heard). Congrats to Lev, Sean, and everyone else involved! Hopefully other brands follow suit.
Sam Tracy wrote for Highsnobiety about why he thinks hyperpop is the new punk. She makes a convincing argument, though I remain unconvinced.
Saturday
We published my slightly art-skewed review of Lily Allen’s album - I love it! Also, did you see her outfit at the CFDAs? A revenge outfit if I’ve ever seen one.
Sunday
Started my Twin Peaks rewatch with an apple pie - no cherry pie on deck, unfortunately ):
My favourite working documentary photographer (yes, not one of, the favourite) started a £5 print sale to raise money for Jamaica following Hurricane Melissa. If you can afford to, please buy a print or donate to a charity doing work in the region. We all owe it to each other.
Climax books also announced their London moving sale this Sunday - best believe I will be there.
Until next week,
Sik
P.S. If anyone wants to write for us, respond to this email or DM us on Instagram, and if anyone wants me to write for them, email siknotsick@gmail.com or DM @020sik, (though my DMs get clogged up pretty quickly).
